Hi, I’m Julie. I’m so glad you dropped by! Let me tell you a little bit about myself and my blog. (I’ll make it quick, I promise!)
During the day I’m a lab technician in a food manufacturing kitchen (which means I get to go to work and play with food! :-)). In the evenings I bake (and play with food again!). And on the weekends, I bake (and yes, play with food again). And I love it! I love pretty much everything about baking (especially the eating part)! I would be perfectly happy with a Chocolate Chip Cookie IV hooked up to me 24/7!
I have an Associate’s Degree in Baking and Pastry, and I’m working on a Technical Communications certificate. Yes, I get to bake at work, but a lot of it is technical baking and not from scratch, whereas when I bake at home it’s all creative baking and mostly from scratch. I love discovering new recipes and trying new things, but I also love baking classics. So on my blog I want to bring you recipes that are not super fussy, that are (mostly) made from scratch, and that are delish. I’ll use my test kitchen skills to work on recipes until they’re perfectly easy and scrumptious, and then I’ll pass them along to you, dear reader.
Having a blog is also going to give me the chance to practice my newest hobby; food photography. When I’m at work, our IT guy sometimes takes pictures of things I’ve baked, but I like to take pictures of things I’ve baked at home, so what better way to learn about it!
One other thing about me is that I’m a sucker for all those new products you see at the grocery store each week! (pumpkin everything!) I’m in awe of the people who conjure up all the different things you can make with a given raw ingredient. Most grocery trips for me include the purchase of at least one “new” product. I love trying them, and I love experimenting with them in my baking. And I love new or pretty packaging! Is anyone else out there like that, or is it just me? On that note, you will probably see a post or two about my latest “find” at the grocery store!
I hope that after visiting my blog you will be inspired to….well, to bake. Bake anything! Whether it’s something new, a tried and true classic, something fun, or something scrummy (my new favorite word from “The Great British Baking Show”; I love that show!)!
I also love sunny days, blue jeans, lemon anything, ice cream, and old movies (I’m actually obsessed with old movies :-)). I grew up in Southern California, but have lived in the beautiful state of Michigan for 27 years. I have four adult children who are all awesome, and one very patient boyfriend/taste tester, aka “Pete so Sweet” (my resident cookie monster)!
Happy baking, friends!
